Human Relations Assignment

After going through the cultural competence self-assessment checklist, I find it to be very interesting and informative. According to this article, cultural competence is having the capacity to appreciate, understand, and interact with individuals from belief or culture systems that are different from one’s own. In learning about cultural competence, I realized that it is comprised of four elements which are: understanding and awareness of one owns cultural standpoint, attitude about cultural differences, cross-cultural skills, and knowledge about different cultural worldviews and practices. According to a study by Shepherd et al (2019), this topic is paramount because evaluating your level of cultural competence is important as a cornerstone for human associations and activity.

The topic is also important as it enables one to understand how cultural difference impact relationships in the workplace. For instance, I have learned that diverse cultural perspectives help to inspire creativity and also drive innovation at the workplace. I have discovered that our cultural differences influence the manner in which the world is seen. Different standpoints alongside the wide-ranging individual and professional experience of an international team can provide modern viewpoints that inspire employees to see the workplace differently. Through this topic, I have realized that multicultural workforces can offer organizations an important edge when expanding globally or entering new markets. This is important because understanding local laws, customs, and other regulations can help a business to thrive. Additionally, local links, skills in native language, and cultural awareness can boost global or international business growth exponentially. Conversely, cross-cultural awareness in addition to knowledge of local market can lend itself to the production of efficient marketing strategies. It has been established through various studies that ethnically diverse organizations were highlighted to be 35 percent more likely to have good financial returns compared to the national industry median.
