Earlier this year, I had major plans for my life and particularly in education and business. However, an unexpected change came and destroyed most of my plans. The change that I am talking about is the COVID-19 pandemic that emerged and changed the lives of many people. Due to this change, schools were closed down and we were forced to study online.
There is nothing much that could have been done to prepare me or the world for this particular pandemic because it is a natural calamity that does not happen very often. However, there are people who have always warned the world to be prepared for biological pandemics. Therefore, following Lewin’s model of change, there are three stages in change that are very integral and if followed could have made a significant impact during this COVID-19 pandemic. The first model in Lewin’s model is unfreezing. At this stage, the main thing that happens is creating awareness so that people understand the need for change and why the change is taking place. I feel like if people were prepared early enough on how to deal with biological pandemics such as the currently ongoing coronavirus, it could have had less impact compared to how it has been felt.
Once coronavirus started spreading to other parts of the world, the impact was so intense in a way that I had not imagined. I feel that the effects of corona virus was so intense because people had not prepared themselves. Many people including myself had not prepared enough especially financially and that is why when many jobs were closed down, many people suffered economically. It is thus important to always be prepared for different kinds of change so that when they take place, the effects do not turn out to be very bad.
