Consciousness Indicators on the MMS:EComa: No verbal or motor responses in response to noxious stimuli Stupor: Individuals required REPEATED stimulation to be roused f the week Drowsy: Individuals who are sleepy but can be roused by aversive stimuli Alert: Wakefulness -Individuals respond promptly and appropriately 6. Orientation: MMSE Orientation Questions -Worth 10 of the 30 points >Year, Season (hurricane/non hurricane season), Date, Month, Day >State, Country, Town, Hospital, Floor -Responses influenced by level of consciousness, attentiveness, and language abilities 7. Attention and Concentration: MMSE assessment of Attention and Calculation (worth 5 of the 30 points) -Serial subtraction (7's) [Asses up to 5 subtractions of 7] >One point for each correct answer up to a 5. -Reverse spelling (WORLD) >Always make sure they can spell "world" forward first!! >Do BOTH tasks and score the higher of the two ->Serial 7's example 93, 86, 79, 72, 65 ? pts ->Spelling example: "D L O R W ? pts 8.
