NR509 WK8 Reflection, Advanced Physical Assessment In the last 8 weeks, I have gained so much knowledge. It has been very challenging but also so very rewarding. Through the iHuman ac琀椀vi琀椀es, wri琀椀ng SOAP notes, the physical examina琀椀on video, and the immersion weekend. This course in speci昀椀c provided me with a tremendous amount of awareness in speci昀椀c disease processes, cri琀椀cal thinking skills on how to assess, diagnose, and treat these diseases, as well as the self-con昀椀dence on how to e昀昀ec琀椀vely provide high quality and safe pa琀椀ent-centered care. Program Outcome Chamberlain’s Program Outcome 1 is to provide high quality, safe, pa琀椀ent-centered care grounded in holis琀椀c health principles. In building the founda琀椀on of this course, an introduc琀椀on and emphasis on social determinants of health ensured when assessing and trea琀椀ng pa琀椀ents there is more to consider than just the chief complaint presented. Social determinants of health are the condi琀椀ons in the environments where people are born, live, and work that a昀昀ects health, well-being, and quality of life (O昀케ce of Disease Preven琀椀on and Health Promo琀椀on, n.d.). In taking these factors into considera琀椀on when assessing and planning care for pa琀椀ents, it allows for a holis琀椀c approach and ensures the best outcomes. Special regards in advanced assessment also ensured there was a holis琀椀c approach in applying and prac琀椀cing assessments and cri琀椀cal thinking. Throughout this course, special considera琀椀ons that were highlighted included racism/bias, cultural humility, spirituality, physical/sensory disabili琀椀es, LGBTQ, ethical considera琀椀ons, and threatening rela琀椀onships. Laying the founda琀椀on of required assessment skills to take into a琀琀en琀椀on the special considera琀椀ons and develop individualized holis琀椀c pa琀椀ent-centered treatment plans and approaches when prac琀椀cing. Another way this course has allowed me to achieve outcome 1 is through the weekly group study ques琀椀ons. By crea琀椀ng a textbook style ques琀椀on and answering other peer-wri琀琀en ques琀椀ons, I am expanding my knowledge on speci昀椀c disease processes. While I am crea琀椀ng and answering these weekly ques琀椀ons, I am remembering more and more detailed disease process informa琀椀on that will help me provide higher quality and safer care to my future pa琀椀ents. AACN Essen琀椀als Synthesizing knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to inform educa琀椀on, prac琀椀ce, and research was profoundly prac琀椀ced throughout this course. The iHuman scenarios have helped enforce my knowledge from the classroom and apply it to real-life scenarios, in which I am then able to provide e昀昀ec琀椀ve clinical judgment not only on a pa琀椀ent’s diagnosis and treatment op琀椀ons, but also on how to provide the safest and most e昀昀ec琀椀ve management of their care a昀琀er their diagnosis as well. Developing clinical reasoning within a pa琀椀ent encounter requires prac琀椀ce and experience. In building these skills, the process of diagnos琀椀c and clinical reasoning begins the crea琀椀ng a list of poten琀椀al causes or di昀昀eren琀椀al diagnosis for the several case scenarios completed.
