NR 601 week 7 reflection assignment Week 7 Reflection Assignment
As I reflect over the last seven weeks of NR 601, I feel that it has prepared me to meet all the
listed coarse outcomes and competencies discussed below.
Chamberlain College of Nursing Program outcome # 5
Advocates for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative
advanced nursing practice. (Extraordinary nursing).
I feel that I was able to meet this outcome every clinical I had at Sunrise Primary Care. We had
many Medicaid, Medicare, and self-pay patients at the clinic. Many patients came from low or
fixed-income households, and the providers made sure that they did everything to help these
patients out. Self-pay patients were charged a low fee of 75 dollars for their first visit and fifty
dollars for any follow-up visit. We had a patient that could not afford his medications because
they cost over three hundred dollars a month. The provider helped him download the Good RX
app and showed that each medication was around four dollars. On another occasion, the provider
gave samples of a medication that the persons insurance did not cover. There was more than a
two months supply. Being at this clinic and working alongside the staff and shadowing the doctor
expanded my knowledge on how different insurance plans work, and different ways we can help
our patients to save money on prescriptions and supplies. I have reached clinical outcome 5 by
advocating for my patients and finding ways to afford their medications, and doctor visits.
