The student will complete 6 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 400 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. The student must then post two replies of at least 300 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned Module: Week. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 3 scholarly citations in APA format. Each reply must incorporate at least 2 academic citation(s) in APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the textbook, the Bible, peer-reviewed journal articles, and professional trade magazines or newspaper articles (traditional or online No unread replies. No replies. This semester, you will have the opportunity to conduct original scholarly research that will investigate a problem or topic you have identified as worthy of scholarly study. This topic will be limited in scope, and your study will be narrowly pursued due in part to the contracted nature of the course (only 8 modules). However, even in a short amount of time, with careful consideration of what can and cannot be done as part of the research process, data can be collected and analyzed for results and findings. However, since Institutional Board Review is not possible in such a short amount of time (approval generally takes 10-12 weeks), the topic must include an artifact that is digital (non-human) in nature (e.g., social media, newspaper articles, stories online, websites, etc.). More so, your methodology will use qualitative methodology, in specific, narrative, discourse, conversational, or documentary analysis as a basis for inquiry. Lastly, since we are communication scholars, your topic should have a communication focus and seek to learn more about a problem or issue, or concern you have observed. Before posting your initial response, please read through the Research Paper: Part 3 – Qualitative Research Assignment Instructions (located in Module 8: Week 8) so you understand what you can and cannot study for a topic as well as what methods and approaches are acceptable or are not acceptable. Note: the research assignment you will complete in this course is not for dissertation research, thus do not suggest a study that is outside the parameters of what is being asked. Your study must be approved prior to beginning it, so caveat, read the instructions carefully! Include the following in your initial post: Communication topic choice Communication issue or the concern you have observed and would like to learn more about through a qualitative research project using narrative, discourse, conversational, or documentary analysis Type of artifacts (what is it and where you will find it) such as social media or other digital content like news articles, websites, etc. Part 2: Below. This is second part of research paper due on this Sunday. It mostly consists of References. To review the assignment information, click on the document name to view or download the document. If you need an exception to this policy, please contact your faculty member. Submit this assignment by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module 1: Week 1. ESEARCH PAPER: PART 2 – QUALITATIVE RESEARCH TOPIC AND REFERENCES ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS OVERVIEW Before submitting this Research Paper: Part 2 – Qualitative Research Topic and References Assignment, please review the Research Paper: Part 3 – Qualitative Research Assignment Instructions carefully. Make sure you understand the research project and the parameters set for it. Once you are ready, submit the following information for instructor approval. INSTRUCTIONS ? Topic: Choose a communication topic of interest to you that fits within the parameters of the assignment. ? Artifact: Select an artifact that you would like to analyze using one of qualitative approaches presented in chapter 9 (section 6) of your textbook. Note: The artifact must be publicly available and not require any special permission to access. Most printed and web-based documents will work well for this assignment. Good choices include visual items such as images, social media, websites, film, music, video, audio, podcasts, speeches, and news articles, for example. ? Research Question(s): Suggest one or two general research questions that could guide your investigation. Your research questions will change upon your literature review, but for now, just suggest a general question that you think is worth exploring. Two examples: o Is there a difference between the leading stories on Fox News and CNN’s websites? If so, in what way are they different? o How has the “cancel culture” movement changed the way American’s watch TV? In specific, how has the film, “Gone with the Wind” been cancelled by culture? ? Sources: Find at least eight (8) scholarly and peer-reviewed sources to support your research topic. You may also use news articles, professional trade magazines, and websites. The Punch textbook and the Bible are also allowed. ? Format: APA Style, current edition ? Page length: 2 pages (not including title page and references list). Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
