Ehren Myers Professional Portfolio This portfolio represents my professional growth throughout my nursing profession. It contains best practice lessons and projects, examples of authentic assessment, and evidence of how I met my professional goal of improvement as a professional nurse in the areas of Quality & Safety, Evidence-Based Practice, Applied Leadership, and Community and Population Health. Professional Goals Mission Statement At this very moment, my number one goal is completing this BSN program at WGU. Within my career field however, my goal is to continuously strengthen my existing skill set and knowledge base. I have recently taken a charge nurse position which in some part was given to me based on the fact that I am continuing to advance my professional development and always seeking new challenges and learning opportunities. I see myself transitioning from the role of charge nurse into a role of nurse educator. Once I have completed my BSN, I will be focusing my time and energy in professional development within the area of surgery, namely preoperative nursing. My mission statement will help focus my energies in the direction I am not only most interested in and enjoy, but also help me to advance towards areas appropriate to my knowledge and skill. Professional Summary There are many ways in which the artifacts in my portfolio represent me as a learner and a healthcare professional. Building upon my current nursing skills and propelling me beyond the basics of critical thinking, my previous works demonstrate how I tapped my existing knowledge of nursing and incorporated it into a more sophisticated level of comprehension. Throughout this program, I have developed a greater knowledge and appreciation of research which has led me to the conclusion that through research and application I can become a change maker and have a positive effect on both my work environment and my community. My professional strengths can be demonstrated in this portfolio by artifacts submitted for my LLE. Among those strengths, I can say with certainty, that research, communication and leadership are by far the most appreciable. While preparing the LLE, I relied heavily on research in order to gather data on an established problem and compare that data to current practice at my organization. In doing so, I was able to show that there was room for improvement. Utilizing strong communication skills, I was able to engage in interprofessional collaboration to achieve a positive outcome towards resolution of the problem. Leadership was essential in assembling an interdisciplinary team and motivating staff. By far the most enjoyable part of the experience is and was the initial and ongoing education of staff, patients and their families. When I first started WGU, my life was all in all pretty carefree and I enjoyed the stability of a solid work-life balance. Towards the end of my summer break, my father, who lived out of state, began to rapidly decline
