Introduction

Surveillance” can be based on systematic monitoring of personal information for the purposes of influencing, managing, or controlling others. Any surveillance is intimate, facial monitoring, however the circumstance in which data is regularly obtained is the primary concern about what proceeds. In American society, systematic disclosure of information is not a modern phenomenon. Institutions have been involved in the specifics of people's everyday lives since the colonial period (Naikoo, thakur, & Guroo, 2018).

The Legacy of the Panopticon

The panopticon, a form of institutional building that has long dominated Bentham's legacy, was used to introduce the history of the Surveillance society. The panopticon is a piece of architecture that allows a watchman to keep an eye on people without them realizing it. In the second half of the twentieth century, the panopticon was appropriated as a metaphor to trace the surveillance patterns of control freak communities (McMullan, 23 Jul 2015). Would that be a significant indication regarding surveillance now that the National Security Agency and the Government Communications Headquarters are in place? Bentham's panopticon has a communication style enclosed by cells as its basic configuration. The watchman is stationed in the central building. Prisoners – or workers, or children, relying on the building's use – are housed in the cells. The watchman can see everyone in the cells thanks to the bright light from the tower. The people in the cells, on the other hand, are unable to see the watchman and must therefore believe that they are constantly being watched. During Bentham's lifetime, no panopticon was ever created. A variety of prisons have since integrated panopticon features into their architecture, but the closest thing to a panopticon prison was not constructed until the 1920s – the Presidio Modelo complex in Cuba, which was notorious for bribery and brutality and has just been demolished (McMullan, 23 Jul 2015).
