The Difference between Climate and Weather

In people’s daily lives, the subject of weather and climate is common. People talk and hear about the two all-time in different forms of the media such as in newspapers, radios, and television. It is an ordinary phenomenon to see people checking for the local weather prediction for them to plan their daily activities.

Also, climate change has been a controversial topic in the news for many years. Despite the fact that weather and climate are familiar subjects in societies, there is a lot of confusion regarding the difference between them (Auffhammer 182).

According to scientists, their definition is that weather is the condition of the atmosphere at a specific location for a short period often on a daily basis. On the other hand, the climate is regarded as the average of the weather patterns in a particular location over a long duration usually 30 years or even more years.

It can thus be deduced that scientists define and differentiate weather from climate through the measure of time and space. Also, scientists identify the difference between weather and climate by examining the things that influence them (Storad and Britannica 5). 

When scientists define climate, they assess the averages of temperatures, humidity, and the velocity of wind, fog, and precipitation among other measures of weather over a long duration in a place. On the other hand, they assess whether by observing things like cloud cover, sunshine, thunderstorms, and rain among other components.

Furthermore, scientists differentiate weather and climate by how the two are measured, while the weather is measured using instruments, the climate is calculated by making an average of the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly weather records (Auffhammer 182).
