One of the control procedures that caught my attention and I was not happy with happened in one of the workplaces where I worked last year. In this company, the management team came up with a new policy that was not quality oriented and affected majority of the employees. The new policy required that all the employees within the company maintain their respective positions, minimize movements and report very early to work. It was a very demanding policy since we used to interact a lot at work and share ideas.
However, due to the new policy, interactions within the company were limited and majority of the employees started feeling pressure. Many people started displaying behaviors that showcased that they were losing the connection with the company as there was no inclusivity in the company. In the past, people usually used to do their work and even other tasks not related to their field but towards attaining the objectives of the company. The policy also required that all the employees report to work before 8AM and leave work after 5PM. According to me, this particular policy was more productive in increasing the time that employees stay at work but does not have much impact on the quality of performance being carried out by the employees.
In the occasion whereby I would have been part of the management, I would have done things differently. First, I would have tried to propose policies that would focus on enhancing quality and reducing time spent on different tasks within the organization. I would have focused on the times that employees report or leave work but rather focus on the quality of the work they do while at work. This would have improved the performance since majority of the employees will be motivated to perform better because there are no major restrictions that hinder them from doing what they like.
