Among them, HIV is widely regarded as among the deadliest infectious diseases in the world. Since it was originally detected in 1981 in Africa, it has rapidly disseminated over the globe. By 2001, HIV/AIDS had surpassed all other infectious diseases as the top cause of death around the globe. Scientists believe a virus comparable to HIV was initially discovered in animals like chimpanzees and monkeys (Ibrahim, 2021). The virus that causes HIV also causes AIDS. However, not all people with HIV develop AIDS. People infected with HIV take a long time to develop AIDS. Problems with HIV/AIDS are now present on every continent in the world, including the US, not just in Africa. An estimated 33 million individuals were infected with HIV in 2008, with another 2.75 million becoming newly infected and more than 2 million succumbing to AIDS that year, according to a special session of the UN general assembly. Over 1 million Americans have been diagnosed with HIV since the virus was first identified in 1981, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
