Re: Proposal advising a friend to study English in Canada
The journey through this project has been made possible through help attained from teachers and friends. My family too has played part in seeing this project a success. The project was written by the researcher with the key goal of convincing a friend by the name Abdul to move to Canada to study his English education. At this point, the three communication procedure has been brought to an end through the writing of this particular report. At the beginning, a proposal was written to provide an explanation and description of what the project was all about. The researcher provided a background information highlighting why Canada is an ideal country in which a foreigner can take English studies.
The proposal memo clearly stated that Canada has numerous benefits that one can get especially for a student from different ethnicity. The proposal reports that in Canada, Vancouver can be the best place for Abdul to live. The researcher also proposes that Abdul can stay at his place before moving to his place of choice. There are also evidence from difference sources highlighting the reasons as to why Canada is the best country for Abdul to carry out his English studies and not any other country. In the proposal, the researcher also indicates that Abdul will enjoy his studies in Canada since there are plenty of things for one to enjoy in Canada. All these has been written to convince Abdul to study English in Canada.
Regarding the progress report, the report highlights why is good for Abdul to study in Canada and not any other country. The report also highlights where he will live before choosing a place of his own. In the report, the researcher highlights different tasks that he has carried out to assess whether it is proper for Abdul to study in Canada. In addition to this, the researcher states the purpose and aim of carrying out the study. A summary of the research findings have also been provided in the progress report.
I take this opportunity to kindly request Abdul to respond to this particular proposal. In reaching me, Abdul can use these contacts:

Executive Summary
This particular research has been carried out to come up with substantial reasons as to why Canada is the best country for a foreigner to study. The report has majorly written to a friend going by the name Abdul. Abdul wants to study English and this has been showed in the appendix section whereby the researcher carried out an interview with him. From the interview, it is evident that Abdul is undecided on where he should study. It is for this reason that I undertook this study to assess whether Canada is a good country in which someone from a different ethnicity can like to live. Some of the other primary resources used apart from interviews is that I questioned various people in different countries to gather out their views on the various countries that a foreigner can study. Among the things that have been evaluated in the study comprise of why Canada is the best country for a foreigner, why Canada is the best country for one to study and lastly is the issue of accommodation. Also, other activities one can do during their free time have been evaluated. Among all these things, accommodation was found to be the most challenging aspect among all of them. However, the researcher advises Abdul to stay with him at the researcher’s home for a period of one month before deciding on renting an apartment in which he will live during the entire study time. An alternative of staying at the researcher’s place, the researcher has advised Abdul to choose between staying at his home and living in an apartment. The significance of staying at the home of the researcher or an apartment is for Abdul to familiarize himself with Canada before choosing a place to live. However, the final decision has been left to Abdul who is going to make the final decision on this report. Through this report, the researcher has come to an end to the end of the three stage communication process. The first stage of the communication process was writing a proposal memo, the second stage was a project progress report and lastly is this final report.
Background
The sole purpose of carrying out this particular study is to convince a friend, Abdul to agree choosing Canada as a country that he is going to carry out his English studies. The study also highlights why Vancouver is the best city in Canada that will be best for him to live. In addition to this, the study also recommends some of the things that he needs to have during his early period in the country before he familiarizes with the place. Being the good friend the researcher is, he decided to carry out the study on the best places for one to study around the world. Since the researcher is living in Canada, he tried to carry out a study to compare Canadian education with other places around the world such as America and the United Kingdom. From the findings that the researcher gathered around, it was clear that Canada stands out as the best country in which a foreign student can carry out his or her study.
There are numerous things that come in play when one wants to choose a foreign country to do their studies. One of the things that one need to consider is the issue of accommodation. However, this is not going to be challenging for Abdul since the researcher has decided that that he is going to accommodate him during the early days of his stay in Canada. When he becomes familiarized with the place is when he can choose a place where he sees fit to live. Also, stated in the study are the advantages and disadvantages that one can face by choosing Canada as the country to live and study. However, even though there are various disadvantages that Abdul is going to face while staying in the researcher’s house, still, there are numerous pros which overwhelm the cons.
By staying in Vancouver, Abdul will be entitled to many things of advantage to him. The town is known to have some of the best schools in Canada (Hughes, 2017). Moreover, the town has serene locations with interesting activities that once can do during their free time. Studying in Canada is good since Canada as a country offers many scholarships to foreigners. Some of the scholarships offered include University of Calgary Graduate Studies Award which is offered to international students, Canadian Commonwealth Scholarships programs that is funded by foreign affairs and DFAIT. Apart from these scholarships, there are others like the Concordia university undergraduate studies and the Vanier Canada graduate scholarships (News et al. 2017).
Another thing that makes Canada a good place to study is the fact that Canada stands out as one of the most attractive nations globally. One of fact to back up the assumption is that Canada has some of the renowned universities in the world. Also, regardless of its high educational standards, it is affordable when compared to the United States and United Kingdom. Also, the country embraces diversity and thus fit for students from different ethnicity. It has also been ranked for 8 consecutive years by the United Nations as one of the best places to live (Hughes, 2017).
The process of applying a study permit in Canada is very simple as everything can be done on the internet. One can easily apply online for their Canadian student visa on the citizenship and immigration Canada portal (News et al. 2017). The list of Canadian universities can be checked from the DLI database. Moreover, I discovered that if one wants to enrol for a programme that lasts for a period of six months or less, there is no need for applying for study permit (Hughes, 2017).
Conclusion and Recommendations
This particular research has been carried out to propose to Abdul to choose Canada as a country that he is going to take his English studies. According to the findings gathered in this study, it is clear that Canada is the best country for Abdul to live and carry out his studies. To ascertain that Canada is the best country for a foreigner like Abdul to study English, various conclusions and recommendations have been drawn to bring clarity to the issue. To bring a conclusion to the proposal, various denotations have been examined.
Vancouver stood out as the best town for one to live because there exist varied opportunities and activities that one can engage. There exist convenient accommodation and varied entertainment places within the town of Vancouver. It is known to be a very dynamic city with lots of interesting happenings. One of things that makes the town perceived good for foreigners wanting to stay in the country for a very long time. This is evident in the favourable accommodation prices in Vancouver apartments than anywhere around the world. However, it will not be appropriate for him to stay in an apartment. A recommendation on this is that he stays at the researcher’s home instead of the many apartments in Vancouver. This will aid in cutting the costs. For him to choose the best place to live in during the entire learning duration, it is critical that he stays at the researcher’s place for some time. However, he sees it not fit to stay at the researcher’s place, he can choose to book one of the apartments. The research found out that the price is not very convenient for those, who is planning to have a month between check-in and check-out. For example, one of the most appreciated Apartments, Opus Apartment, names and average cost $439 per night (“Vancouver Apartment Rooms | OPUS Vancouver | Luxury Apartment in Vancouver”, 2016). In fact, one of the cheapest offers (still, comfortable enough to live there for thirty days), by Howard Johnson Inn, is $62 per night (“Howard Johnson Inn and Suites by Vancouver Mall – Vancouver | Venere.com”, 2016). In these terms, Abdul will have to spend at least $1800 (or in a case with an expensive Apartment, more than $10000). Moreover, these prices do not include meals. On the assumption of such prices, it would be easier for the friend to choose between the researcher’s home and an apartment but for the researcher, he prefers him staying at their place.
It goes without saying that Canada is an outstanding country that a foreigner can easily study. However, the main challenge that Abdul is going to face is on accommodation. Therefore, below is a comparison that Abdul will have to choose between deciding to stay at the researcher’s place for a small period of time before familiarizing with the town. Below is an interview between Abdul and the researcher
An Interview with Abdul
This form is an interview that I carried out with Abdul after hearing that he wanted to take an English course abroad. The interview lasted for thirty minutes. The questions basically surrounded his studies, even though we are good friends, we tried out best keeping the interview session formal.
Me: Hello Abdul
Abdul: Hello Friend
Me: I have heard from my parents that you want to study English in one of the countries abroad. Since we are friends, I thought it better I help you in finding the best school to study and t best place where you will find life easy to cope.
Abdul: That’s right, I want to study abroad. However, I am confused of which country and school should undertake my study
Me: Okay, I will always be at your service to help you find a good school and choose the best country for you
Abdul: That will be very nice friend
Me: You said you wanted to study English?
Abdul: Yes that is right
Me: I have been living in Canada for quite some time and I have heard that Canada has some of the best schools around the world offering English courses. However, I have research on it so that you can be in a position of making a decision
Abdul: Yes, Kindly carry out a research so that I might have tangible evidence from which to base my decision on
Me: Okay friend, kindly give some time so that I can study various countries and compare them with Canada then I will present you a report with all the details. You will be the one to make the ultimate decision
Abdul: That will be good friend, thank you so much for wanting to help me.
On the other hand, if Abdul chooses to stay in an apartment, accommodation is going to be pretty high. Blow is an accommodation for an apartment which is quiet high for a student
Table of Accommodation
Though the researcher’s home is open to various distractions, for example the existence of pets, still, he needs to make a wise choice considering the price in living in an Apartment. The reason as to why the researcher does not propose him renting a house immediately he arrives in Canada is because it will not be proper for him to reside in a place that he does not like. Some of the costs for things that will be essential in the first month of living in an apartment are provided in the table below.
The Table of Costs
Products/services | Total costs, $ |
Accommodation (Apartment) | 2500 |
Food and Drink | 500 |
Transport | 300 |
Total | 2800 |
Table 2. Table of Costs
The table on costs has been crafted based on information that was provided by PriceofAccomodation.com (2016).
If Abdul is going to choose to stay in an apartment rather than at the researcher’s homestay, it is essential that he converts some money into dollars if the apartment does not allow one to pay using a card. During the day of arrival, the researcher will pick him at the airport. However, if something happens hindering their meeting at the airport, he will have to opt out for public means of transport. In this regard, it is critical that he changes some money into dollars to use public phones and means of transport. Since Vancouver is a city where most of the people speak French as their prior language, it is imperative that Abdul learn some key phrases and have a pocket phrasebook. It is also proper if he sets some extra cash for emergencies during his educational duration in Canada.
