Article Summary
Purpose of the study
The study was conducted to examine the effect that flipped learning has on cooperative learning among business students. According to the researchers, there have been studies that have examined the effect that flipped technique of learning has on the method cooperative learning and competitive minds, however, there is minimal literature when evaluating the upshot of flipped learning among business students.
Participants/Sample
When conducting the study, the researcher’s chosen setting was at H University in the autumn semester. Within the university, six classes were chosen; 157 students were selected randomly to take part in the study. The participants were then assigned to the experiment while others were assigned to control groups basing on the pre-test and post-test control group method. Following Cronbach’s reliability coefficients for both learning technique scales, values ranging from 0.8 and 0.93 were chosen for the experimental group while 0.86 -0.94 was selected for the control group. 68.8%of the participants were male students while the remaining were female (Kwon
& Woo, 2018).
Research design
The researchers employed an experimental research design. The experiment was designed by creating a flipped learning case for providing a course in corporate sustainability which was then rolled over during the autumn semester (Kwon & Woo 2018). The course was created with the anticipation that the learners can appropriately identify the significance of corporate sustainability. The funnel experiment was controlled using two control groups one before rolling the experiment, and the other one was employed in the aftermath of the investigation.
Data Collection
Data were collected from the records of students’ scores before and after the study was implemented. The survey was also used to collect data by grouping students I a semi-structured discussion that had three questions (Kwon & Woo 2018).
Statistical analysis
The primary statistical analysis technique that was employed in the study was the analysis of variance (ANCOVA). This statistical analysis the method was employed to ascertain the variation in the study to compare the performance of the two groups (Kwon & Woo 2018).
Results
The findings from the study showed that the performance in the experimental divisions was much more enhanced compared to the performance of the group that was used as a control variable. On the other hand, the understanding of the competitive mindset group in the experimental group reduced more than the students who were in the control group. From the study, the researchers concluded that flipped learning techniques might be a capable technique to improve learners’ sentience, particularly in sustainable management in business (Kwon & Woo 2018).
Critical analysis of the article
The study was appropriately conducting following all the guidelines provided for conducting scientific investigations. Even though many studies have examined the effects of flipped learning in cooperative and competitive mindsets, it is a good thing that the researchers did this particular research since there is limited study on the impact of flipped learning on business education students. Also, the designed flipped learning course was appropriately created. Also, the aspect of incorporating pre-test and post-test groups were significant since the control group plays a critical role in ascertaining whether the experiment or instead, treatment administered was effective. Regarding the research design, the use of the experimental method was very effective due to several reasons. The first advantage of using an experimental procedure is because the researcher has control over the variables. Also, it is a beneficial technique for conducting human research (Farghaly, 2018).Thirdly, the experimental research design provides the researcher with insight into the methods of instruction which was essential for this particular research. However, a significant challenge for using this specific design is that it can be subject to human error and it’s prone to personal bias (Farghaly, 2018). Regarding the sample chosen, it was appropriate based on the fact that it was sufficient for having both a treatment and a control group.
Since the research was done using natural science and engineering learners for only six classes, future studies must extend the investigation to a diverse population. This study is essential since it will enable the research to be generalized to the entire academic population. Additionally, the study was carried out to examine the effect that flipped technique of learning has on cooperative ad competitive learning; reviewing its impact on sustainability. Future studies must focus on other aspects of education, for instance, success in academics and even student gratification, among other things. The biases present in this study such as preference and gender should be eliminated in future studies by having a balanced population as participants for the study’s pre-test and post-test treatment and control groups (Kwon & Woo, 2018). This study is of great significance to the education sector since its pedagogical effects have been realized to be very complicated if students will only rely on textbooks and what their instructions are teaching them. Therefore, this study will be essential for the literature that I will use in my current research.
