Introduction
My Name is Maryam Alhemeiri, a new employee at Abu Dhabi National Takaful Company. The company was established in 2003, and provides the market with takaful insurance solutions. I became part (an employee) of the company on March 1, 2020. Ever since, I have worked in various disarmaments ranging from motor, administration, technical, medical, and others. From these departments, I have gained experience and knowledge in relation takaful insurance. This report discusses the departments I worked in and which one I consider suitable for me.
Technical Department
First, I began the training in the Technical Department. Being my first time, I struggled to catch up with the general terms and policies of the department. However, with time I was able to understand and I learned a lot about. Within the technical department, I gained knowledge on how to insure properties such as buildings and houses. For buildings, we usually went for a survey where we assessed if it is RCC or ACP and how many floors or how much it will cost so that we can insure the building. For houses we usually insured if it is new, in such instances, there was no need for survey. Normally, the customer was asked to send his Villa details to insure or the bank send the customer details to insure the house. All the houses are RCC (Concrete).
If the houses are above 20 years we should send someone for survey. After insuring we had to put the customer details in the sheet and confirm the policy. The building will then be insured for 13 months
Medical Department
The second training was in the medical department. Here, I learned a lot regarding the different medical plans being offered by the company. I learned how to register both in-patient and out-patient clients when they seek insurance from the company. I also received insight on the different divisions within the medical department such as the members’ services division responsible for receiving requests and incoming calls and the new business processing function which is tasked with onboarding new insurance members of policy holders. Moreover, I learned that the company offers coverage to clients from different regions be it UAE, GCC, Middle East and other parts of the world.
Finance Department
The third training was in the finance department where I learned how to come up with different reports. For instance, I was trained on how to generate annual financial reports and returns. Even though it was challenging due to the complex computation required, I managed to understand how the department operates.
Life Department
The fourth training was in the Life Department. I found the department quite interesting. One of the things that I learned regards the different jargons used such as death benefit, premium and cash value among others. Death benefit also known as face value entails the money that the firm guarantees to the beneficiaries while premium is the money that the policy holders pay for to get insurance.
Admin and HR Department
The fourth training was in the Admin and HR department. Within the administration department, most of the lessons regarded management and general supervision of the other departments. Also, within the Administration and HR department, I gained insight on how to maintain both physical and digital personnel registers for instance, PTO requests and employee contracts.
Motor Department
The final department was in the motor department. Here, I learned about the different types of insurance covers for example comprehensive insurance cover and third party liability cover.
Conclusion
After reviewing all the departments, I realized that all of them were very interesting in one way or another. However, I like the motor, medical and technical departments more while the finance department proved to be more challenging.
