- Favorite activities
Some of the activities that I find very interesting are listening to music, watching movies, especially on Netflix, and hanging out with my family. I rarely spend time with friends, but whenever I do, I usually enjoy it. Maybe I do not spend so much time with friends because I am an introvert, and I enjoy my space a lot. I love reading novels, and I often find myself reading adventurous novels.
- The things I like
I am a student who is so much interested in literature. I like reading novels and poems. At times, during my free time, I try to come up with my original poems. Even though I have not yet mastered the art of poetry perfectly, I believe that I will be an excellent poet with time. My favorite poets of the 21st century are Eavan Boland and Anne Compton. Apart from the two, I like reading and reciting William Shakespeare’s poems a lot. I love pets so much, and I even have two cats that I love so much.
- Poem
The poem that I found very interesting is “Touchscreen” by Davis Jones. The poem explores the effects of technology to the society. Numerous literary technique have been employed by the poet. For instance, jones notes “Love drugged like e-pills”. Puns have also been extensively used for instance “slipped a disk/disc” which means inserting a disc in a computer on in other instances it refers to a back injury.
In the poem, repetition and alliteration have been extensively used to emphasize a point or rather an idea. For instance, Jones recites
“now money can buy love for $9.95 a month click
to proceed to checkout click to x out where our hearts once were click I’ve uploaded this hug I hope she gets it click
I’m making love to my wife I hope she’s logged in click
I’m holding my daughter over a Skype conference call while she’s crying in the crib in the next room click”
Here, the repetitive use of the word click has been used to emphasize how technology is destroying human connection. While reciting the poem, Jones creatively uses body language and tone to make the poem interesting while at the same time illustrating different subjects in the poem. For instance, he mimics robots to showcase how humans are slowly turning into robots due to technology. In conclusion, the poem is very interesting and insightful.
