The government, in conjunction with the transport sector, has for a long time tried to come up with interventions that will reduce accidents and traffic collisions but success is yet to be attained. Due to the increase in the number of collisions and accidents, the demand for pre-hospital medical services has gone high especially in low resource nations and regions where there are limited emergency ambulance services (Lee et al. 2018). Therefore, coming up with an emergency medical services business particularly one offering ambulance service will be a promising business. Apart from being a lucrative business, the business will also help a great deal in saving lives and improving the quality of life for many people (Jyothi, Prasad & N Anuradha 2012). Therefore, this proposal paper presents a business model for ambulance healthcare services majorly offering emergency medical services (EMS).
Revenue
Revenue refers to the amount of income generated from the ambulance business and incorporates both discounts and deductions for reimbursed merchandise. The revenue cycle in healthcare entails all the management and clinical operations that contribute to the capture, administration, and collection of the revenue provided as a result of patient service (Lee, 2018). The primary sources of revenue for the business will come from government aid, premiums, out of pocket payments, and private donations. Usually, the government offers some revenue that is to be subdivided within the healthcare industry via grants and subsidies (Jyothi, Prasad & N Anuradha 2012). The net revenue for one year for the business is an average of $ 10 million. The estimated revenue growth rate for the business will be an average of 5% per year.
Cost
The yearly expenditure will encompass a sum of the expenses incurred for ambulance operation, the facilities, equipment, and their utilization duration. The respective costs will cutter for the labor costs for every physician, nurse, and drivers employed. There are also costs catering for fueling and maintaining the vehicles. Additionally, the costs for supplies are added together with money for all the company telephone operators. In the budget, an emergency fee is added in case there will be any errors experienced during the operations in the course of the year.
The depreciation cost for the ambulance, equipment, and facilities for a period of five years will be a sum of $50,000 per year according to the estimate. Averagely, one physician will earn an average of $900 a month while a nurse is paid $400 per month. Each driver receives a salary of $200 every month while the telephone operators are paid $220 per month. The variable costs will encompass fueling costs that will be an average of $2 for every operation. The medical supplies will be around $3 per operation. Vehicle maintenance costs will be an average of $2.3 per operation.
Activities
Generally, the business will entail the provision of ambulance services from the scene of injury to the hospital. There is a wide variety of pre-hospital care services that will be offered by the business. These services comprise of but not limited to 24 hours evacuation services, air evacuation cross border evacuation, field support, and escort, long-distance transfer of critical patients, inter-hospital transfers regional and national ambulance services, event coverage, provision of ambulance services for private and public events such as sports to provide emergency medical services whenever the need arises and long term contracts of ambulance services for special projects. Basing on the services, a diagnostic review of the nation and organizational context concerning the emergency medical service environment will be conducted.
Resources
The overall resources for the business will be made of human resources, capital to start the business which will be used for buying several ambulance vehicles, medical service equipment, and supplies, hiring physicians, nurses, telephone operators, and drivers fueling and vehicle maintenance fee. Other funds required to encompass money for parking and a store where the ambulance will be put after work, money for licensing the company and the vehicles, initial tax for the operations, and additional emergency fee.
Relationships (internal and external)
The internal relations for the business will include the interactions and operations within the business. On the other hand, external relations will encompass any form of communication or services conducted by other personnel, bodies, or organizations who are stakeholders but do not work for the company. There is a need for building a healthy and friendly culture within the organization for high and effective performance to be attained. Regarding external relationships, it is always important to ensure that the business observes all the legal regulations in place for the business to enjoy efficient and uninterrupted operations.
Conclusion
Summing up, starting a business within the emergency medical service industry is very promising considering that there is a high demand for these services. Among the different departments with EMS, ambulance services stand out to be the best due to its limited availability. From the projects, it is evident that the business will be very lucrative if everything will go as planned. However, there is a need of conducting a pilot study before the actual project is started.
