What is the alimentary canal?: The alimentary canal is a continuous muscular digestive tube beginning in the oral cavity. It is open at both ends, winding its way through the body cavity. It is composed of the mouth (oral cavity), pharynx (throat), esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. 3. What are the accessory digestive organs?: The accessory digestive organs include: teeth, tongue, gall bladder, salivary glands, liver, and pancreas 4. What is another name for the salivary gland?: Parotid gland 5. What is the beginning of the gastro intestinal tract?: The mouth 6. Describe the parts of the mouth and what land marks they are;: The beginning of the gastrointestinal tract is the mouth (see Figure 3.5). The mouth is made up of the following structures. The lipsform the opening; the tongue forms the floor; the cheeks form the walls; the hard and soft palates form the roof; and the uvulaforms the posterior border.
