Poultry farmers in Kenya face challenges in improving the productivity of their flock, which could lead to increased returns and food security. The disease is the major constraint in smallholder poultry production, with Newcastle disease (ND) being the most prevalent and fatal disease in Kenya (Atela et al., 2016, King’ori et al., 2010).
The disease often causes up to 100% mortality in unvaccinated poultry, leading to high economic losses through deaths. Outbreaks lead to reduced prices for chicken and egg while reducing production due to deaths.
